What is YOM?
YOM is a study app: photograph a textbook, past exam, or document and AI refines it into natural speech and reads it aloud. You follow the text with your eyes while listening — decoding the words is offloaded, so you can focus on understanding and retention.
What is AI Scan (refine)? Can it change the original text?
AI Scan rewrites raw OCR text into natural prose you can follow by ear. It fixes typos and broken lines, turns bullets and tables into flowing sentences, and excludes figures from narration. Because it is an AI rewrite, the result may differ from the original or contain mistakes — the original page image is always available to check.
What are tokens? What consumes them?
Tokens are consumed by cloud high-quality AI voice (read-aloud) and cloud AI Scan. High-quality AI voice costs 1–2 tokens per character depending on the voice engine, and AI Scan consumes tokens in proportion to the amount processed. Apple system voices, offline AI Scan, OCR, and translation never consume tokens and are unrestricted. If you run low, you can buy a token pack of 50,000, 110,000, or 300,000 tokens. Packs are one-time purchases with no expiry, and unused tokens roll over to the following months. Prices are shown in the App Store.
How much can I do for free?
Every feature is available for free. Free-plan tokens are a one-time grant of 10,000 when you create an account, with no monthly grant. Apple system voices, offline AI Scan, OCR, and translation need no tokens, so you can keep using them free indefinitely.
What is Pro?
Pro is a monthly subscription at $22.99 that lets you listen with cloud high-quality AI voice without keeping an eye on your remaining balance. To keep the service stable, Pro has a usage cap of 900,000 tokens per billing period. After the cap you can keep listening with Apple system voices, and buying a token pack restores cloud high-quality AI voice. The full conditions are set out in the Token and Paid Plan Terms.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Read-aloud with Apple system voices works offline, and on Apple Intelligence–capable devices you can choose offline AI refine, which is free. Cloud AI voice and cloud AI refine require a connection.
Which devices are supported?
YOM is an iOS app for iPhone and iPad, available on the App Store.
Which languages are supported?
Both read-aloud and translation support 7 languages. For example, you can listen to an English document while checking its translation.
Where is my scanned content processed?
OCR (text recognition) runs on your device. Only when you use cloud AI voice or cloud AI refine is the text sent to a server. If you choose offline AI refine, the text is also processed on-device.
How do I cancel or change plans?
Pro is billed as a subscription through the App Store, so you can cancel any time from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone. After cancelling, you keep using YOM on the Free plan. Token packs are one-time purchases with nothing to subscribe to or cancel, and the tokens you bought are not forfeited by cancelling or by any expiry date.
